JUNEAU -- The wreckage of a plane that disappeared four years ago has been found near Juneau, Alaska State Troopers said.

Sonar scanners found what is believed to be the remains of a plane near Horse Island west of Douglas Island, troopers said.

Searchers were looking for signs of James Metlicka of Eagle River and Nick Mayer of Hoonah, whose boat was found capsized in the area in November.

Troopers spokesman Greg Wilkinson said the searchers believe the wreckage is of a plane departing from Juneau in December 2000. On board were Juneau residents Steve Zeckser and Edgar Burch.

There are no plans to recover the wreckage, Wilkinson said.
